Nara’s National Treasure Buildings
奈良の国宝建築物を訪ねる旅

The current capital of Japan is Tokyo, but 1,230 years ago, the capital was located in Nara Prefecture. First the capital was a palace in Asuka, then it moved to Fujiwara-kyo, then Heijo-kyo, all within the the Asuka area in Nara, where the emperor resided. Many beautiful Buddhist temples and shrines were also built in areas where the capital was located. Several of them still exist even now, including several buildings designated as important cultural properties and National Treasures.
These breathtaking buildings can be found scattered throughout the abundant nature of Nara Prefecture, and the purpose of this tour is to show you where they all are.
Architect Nobuaki Ishimaru, who is well versed in Japanese architecture, will guide us to 9 of the 24 National Treasures in Nara while also providing us with his own commentary. Translator Dan Luffey will also join the tour and translate the content into English for foreign visitors. There will be three courses starting from both Osaka and Nara City, each lasting two days and one night, visiting three sites per day for a total of six sites.

現在の日本の首都は東京ですが、今からさかのぼること1230年前は奈良県内に首都がありました。平城京であり、その前は藤原京、それ以前は飛鳥エリアに天皇の住まいである「宮」がありました。すべて奈良県です。都のあったところには立派な仏教寺院や神社がありました。現存しているものもいくつかあり、それらの中には重要文化財に指定されている建物がたくさんあります。その中で日本国の宝とも言われるのが国宝建築物です。
見るだけで価値のある建造物が、自然あふれる奈良県内のそこここに残されています。それらの建造物を訪ねようというのが、今回の旅の目的です。今回の「奈良の国宝建築物を訪ねる旅」は、日本の建築物に造詣の深い、建築家の石丸信明氏が24か所ある国宝建造物の中から9か所を選び、解説を加えて案内していただきます。翻訳家のダン・ルフィ氏も同行し、外国人観光客にもわかるように英語で通訳していただきます。コースは大阪市内発と奈良市内発の計3コースを設定し、それぞれ一泊二日で一日3か所、計6か所回る旅になっています。
